I chose this book, because I liked the plot line. It was about a young girl battling the consequences of yellow fever. The first draft was hard, because I couldn’t think of anything to write about. But when I started to revise and edit was easy, because I only had to fix small punctuation mistakes. I learned how new reading term like ‘foil’ and ‘anti-hero’, but I also new most of them, like ‘protagonist’ and ‘antagonist’.

Introduction to book review:

The hospitals are filled with dead bodies and sick patients. Families are sobbing over the loss of their relatives. Outside, the once busy streets are empty. Everyone has either fled the city, or won’t dare come outside in the scorching heat. A deadly insect-borne disease has taken over Philadelphia, Yellow fever.

The intense and well-researched historical fiction novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, Fever 1793, is about yellow fever ravaging the city of Philadelphia. The main character, Matilda, is a determined and hard-working girl. Her main problem is trying to please her widowed mother and keep their small coffeehouse running. This is a devastating and intriguing story of a girl fighting to survive in a disease-ridden city.

Peace day

September 22nd, 2014 · 1 Comment · Celebraitions

Peace Day! On Sunday the 21st of September it was peace day. In art we painted rocks and on the rocks, we painted peaceful colors like, blue, green and white. Across our rock we painted a white strip. We untied all these rocks in a hallway, and the white line in the middle connected all the rocks.

What did you do for peace day?

In 1999, Jeremy Gilley made peace day. Go to his website here. It tells you all about Peace Day.

Fun Fact: Did you now that because, of peace day 70% of humanity have lived .

September 22nd, 2014 · No Comments · WritingWorkshop

Today we started a new writing unit called literary essays. Its where we write about a book we read. So in our case we did one for The Tiger Rising. It was kind of hard because I do not know how to write a literary essay. Today I also finished my own personal anthology called Pool Poems its got 9 poems in it. So far writing, is one of my favorite subjects in school.

In science we are making pendulums and experimenting with them. Its really different from what we had done previous years at the beginning and the year. Another thing i liked in school is P.E. We played really fun games like 500, 21, hit it and kick it. So far I really like fifth grade and I think its going to be an amazing year!

UGH!! Food!!

by: Ana

If you are ever hungry or starving and you need to get food fast, you always have to go somewhere far. Why can’t we just have a fast food restaurant in nichada with a variety of food? Thats why we should have more restaurants in Nichada. 5 out of 5 people in Ms.Hamlins class agree with me.

There should be restaurants in Nichada because, at central more than half the restaurants have meat and lots of people are vegetarian, which makes sense since we live next to india and most people there are vegetarian. At central Plaza there isn’t a big variety of food to eat. For example, 5 of the restaurants are pizza and 3 are Japanese. They take so long to take order and bring the food to you.

In nichada we have 2 restaurants but, one of them ( nichada club) is so expensive. When you want something really fast to eat you don’t want to pay 10,000 baht for it.  There used to be 2 restaurants but, now there is only one since olives closed down and moved somewhere else “I really liked Olives to bad it closed down. They should open up a restaurant like Olives” says Agraj.

When you want food fast and theres nothing in the fridge you don’t want to drive one hour to paragon or central world to get food all you want to do is drive 15 seconds in your golf cart to a restaurant in Nichada. “I think that restaurants in Nichada is a good idea because I hate driving a long way just to go to a restaurant ”

That is why I hate not having restaurants in Nichada. I think that we should have at least 2 more restaurants, as mentioned earlier, it would be faster than going somewhere else. Do you think we should have more restaurants in Nichada? Everyone in Nichada who wants restaurants should talk to the Nichada office manager for more restaurants.

Science fair

May 22nd, 2014 · No Comments · My Learning

On Tuesday, we had a science fair about electricity and magnetism. My question was how magnetism and electricity interacts. For my projects I needed to use a battery, insulated magnetic wire, copper rod and to permanent magnets. My Hypothesis was, the wire will spin if there is electric current. The spinning wire in the middle was hard to make because, you had to make the number of spins equal and the weight had to be equal to. You had to leave 1 inch of wire at the end. Lots of people saw my science project and they thought it was a cool idea. When I was presenting I should of made my hypothesis clearer and I needed to speak louder.

Tattoos evrywhere

Lucky Rich has spent over 1,000 hours having his body modified by hundreds of tattoo artists. He began by having a full collection of colorful designs from around the world tattooed over his entire body. Lucky next opted for a 100% covering of black ink, including eyelids, the  skin between the toes, down into the ears, and even his gums! He is now being tattooed with white designs on top of the black, and colored designs on top of the white!
